BIOGRAPHY
Mica Joy is a painter who primarily works in oil paint and gouache. She also enjoys photography and collage. She likes to incorporate the use of collage and technology into her technical process to build her concepts and draw out found patterns. It is her fascination with line and color that has developed her intricate detailed style.
She was born and raised in North Carolina and currently resides and works in Warsaw, North Carolina. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with her BA in Studio Art in December 2016.
In April 2018 she attended a 1 month art residency at the Julia and David White Art Colony in Costa Rica. She received two grants In 2017, a Regional Artist Project Grant from the North Carolina Art Council and the Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge and a mural grant from the Jacksonville Onslow County Arts Council to paint a mural in downtown Jacksonville, North Carolina (currently in progress). She will have a solo exhibition at the Jacksonville Onslow Arts Council's gallery in November 2018 that will showcase her work created during her art residency which was partially funded by the regional artist project grant.
She had a solo exhibtion, Lost in Wonderland, at the Sampson County Arts Council's Victor Small House in Clinton, NC in August 2017 and in November 2016 she was the recipient of a scholarship awarded solo exhibition at the Ann Flack Boseman Gallery at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She has been featured in 6 group exhibitions in 2016 and 2017, which includes one juried exhibition at the Ann Flack Boseman Gallery at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and the CTFA Spring Juried Show at the Jacksonville Onslow Arts Council in Jacksonville, NC. In 2017 she also received the People's Choice Award at the Arti-Mardi Gras Exhibition at the Going Local Artisan Gallery in Wilmington, NC.
